Rail tanker cars on fire at railyard Kijfhoek near Zwijndrecht in the Netherlands
At 2142 hours, a railroad tanker car containing 65000 kg ethanol caught fire on the railyard Kijfhoek near Zwijndrecht in the Netherlands. Due to unknown cause a crack in the car spilled ethanol under and around the the car. Emergency response organisations were on the scene with a lot of equipment. Some people from nearby houses were evacuated. The rail traffic is partly blocked and the nearby highway was closed. Railroad tanker cars in the nearby surroundigs such as empty but not degassed LPG cars were removed. The fire brigades tried to cover the pool of fire with foam. At 0800 hours next morning the fire was nearly extinguished.
